Large urban Fire-EMS departments are experiencing resource shortages due to overutilization of 911 for low-priority medical calls. When emergency resources and personnel are assigned to calls that do not require a high level of response, the system suffers. Response times increase, crew morale falls, and the community does not receive services best-matched to their needs.
Global Medical Response partners with Fire-EMS departments to redefine EMS service models through our innovative 911 Nurse Navigation program. With GMR, metro fire departments can effectively decompress their EMS workload by sending 15 – 20% of their lowest priority calls to GMR’s Nurse Navigators, who will screen the caller to determine the best clinical resource and timeframe for care, including referrals to community resources, mobile integrated healthcare, transport via non-EMS options, or low priority BLS response by non-911 units as needed. GMR’s 911 Nurse Navigation program is sweeping the country and changing the delivery of EMS.
